To be a world class mountain bike destination the key is to have a world class trail network.
This is why we have dedicated a day of the conference to exclusively to trails - what trails should we have; how do we manage our trail networks better - with more riders engaged in the process; what training could/should be developed for volunteers, builders and designers; and a practical session to get out and dig!
The day will be split into two halves with an interactive morning session of two workshops (detailed below). We will then travel to a site, grab some lunch sponsored by Specialized, As a trail crew we will visit a site with a number of great trails which have been built without the landowners permission. We will look to upgrade a few sections and help move toward a partnership between the landowners and mountain bike volunteer trail builders for the ongoing management and maintenance of the trails.
Following the launch of the new 'Unauthorised Trails Guidance' at the Scottish Mountain Bike Conference, this trail summit looks to the future and will provide delegates and mountain bike trail builders - both professional and volunteers - with opportunities to see how the new guidance will work in practice.
No dig = no ride!
There is potential for a pan-European approach to address the lack of specific training to plan, design, build and maintain mountain biking trails that offer great experiences and are sustainable and safe to ride by providing training packages. The workshop will help verify the need for the project and its specific content.
Hosted by Developing MTB in Scotland, Scottish Land & Estates and Forestry Commission Scotland, the workshop will introduce the workshop and ask how do we implement the new guidance with improved communications, planning and partnerships between mountain bikers and landowners?
If you are unable to attend the conference but would like to attend as a volunteer/professional trail builder then please register for free via Eventbrite
The lunch for all volunteer trail builders will be sponsored by Specialized!
