The purpose of this research project is to explore the issue of professionalisation of mountain biking and its ancillary activities in Scotland. This will involve documenting the current qualifications profile, identifying any gaps in provision, investigating the demand for training and education, predicting the future trends, and commenting on the efficacy of professionalisation for mountain biking and its implications for training and education providers.
a. To collate information on existing provision of learning programmes and qualifications and undertake a mapping exercise against the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
b. To identify any gaps in provision to meet current and future needs of the mountain biking industry from a national and overseas perspective.
c. To establish potential employer demand for academic or professional qualifications in this area through consulting with industry on the knowledge and skills requirements for the current and future workforce.
d. To provide a brief analysis and commentary on potential new academic opportunities for course or learning material development through Further and
Higher Education Institutes.
e. To present a diagram demonstrating progression or learning routes.
