This is your shortlist for 2019:-
Cleikum Mill Lodge, Innerleithen
A winner of this category in 2017. Things seem to still be awesome. We thought be great to let you see some of the reviews of Cleikum Mill Lodge.
“What a fantastic place to stay! We went as a group of 12 and filled up the entire Mill. There was loads of space for us and the bikes. It is just set up as the perfect MTB base. Easy cycling access to Glentress and Innerleithen Trail Centres - beautiful ride along the Tweed Valley to Glentress. Golfie is also easy to get to. The Traquair Arms looked after us very well, good beer and food, with really helpful staff. Cafe across the road serves the best wraps that I have ever had! Well worth trying the Indian takeaway on the main street. We arranged to have a day of coaching from Andy and Allan at Ridelines on the second day of our trip. Finally after 20 plus years of riding we have all learned to MTB properly! Everyone enjoyed the sessions and we have all come out of it as much better bikers.”
“Our group has stayed in a few places in Scotland but Cleikum mill has to be one of the best for location & facilities Graham was a fantastic host would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic place to base you weekend of riding from”
“Always our first choice when looking for accommodation for MTB trips to the Tweed Valley, excellent!”

“Great base for mountain biking and well situated in the town. Comfortable and well equipped accommodation. Secure bike storage and workshop is perfect.”

Great warm setting after a long day in the saddle. lovely modern facilities with extra help for cyclists such as a storage, workshop and bike cleaning and the provision of tea/coffee and some cereals for breakfast in the morning.
“Have now stayed at this accommodation for a second time and on returning home have booked again for next year. Accommodation is centrally located, very well equipped, comfortable. Recommend booking both floors of the accommodation”
“Stayed the night before a cycling event. Great accommodation: Clean, tidy, as described, secure bike storage and within walk of food and drink establishments. Everything we needed.”
Great location & lovely accommodation. Friendly & very professional service.
“Possibly the nicest bunkhouse I have ever stayed in in a great location. Good cycle storage and friendly owner. 5 star.”
Glentress Forest Lodges
The business was started to provide affordable accommodation for mountain bikers and others who love the great outdoors. They have now been operating for 10 years and the business has grown over time from 10 pods to now 21! The accommodation is quite unique to the area and is on the doorstep to Glentress forest. Secure bike storage is provided plus the opportunity to have campfires.
Here are some of the reviews from customers who have visited the pods:-
All pods and public areas cleaned to a high standard, customer enquiries responded to quickly and very flexible check in times. Tripadvisor certificate of excellence past 2 years
''If you’re looking for a cheap getaway with fun things to do then Glentress Forest Lodges is perfect for you!
We stayed in a wigwam for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The wigwam was spacious, cosy and had almost everything you need. Things like toilets, showers and kitchen were literally a 30 second walk away which was ideal. There’s a bike hire shop onsite and a cafe too. From there you can begin your cycle up into the woods. Peebles is a five minute drive away too which is handy. Brilliant stay!’’
We have just got home from 3 nights at Glentress Forest Lodges (having only booked for 2)
This is a great base for families, we love biking and the uphill and down hill trails were great plus it’s a perfect starting point for exploring the Scottish Borders.
The lodge we had (Beech) fitted our family and dog. The boys had a great time exploring, making new friends and biking and our wee dog discovered chasing bunnies.
The facilities were everything we needed, showers, kitchen, bunk house were all that we needed.
We will be back and we cannot recommend the Glentress Forest Lodges enough.’’
The Glentress Hotel
Murray and Alexandra met in Morzine in the summer of 2009 whilst Murray was mountain biking. Fast forward 6 years, 2 children and several careers later and they moved to Peebles in 2015 in looking for an outdoor lifestyle and a friendly, active community which would offer a great family life within striking distance of the central belt. Murray (a very keen mountain biker and borders lad) and Alex (a keen hill runner from warmer climates) were frustrated with the lack of family friendly dining and didn’t understand why a town like Peebles with all its outdoor amenities and natural beauty didn’t have the type of café’s or restaurants theyd seen in the alps or even in Southern England.
So when the opportunity came up - they bought the hotel at the foot of Glentress and went about setting up a business they thought the area suited. Reviews and feedback to date show that they have done a good thing. Aims being:-
1. Provide a family friendly all-day dining experience at the foot of a key leisure attraction for both locals and tourists.
2. Replicate the type of active lifestyle focused destination tourism we had seen in the Alps.
3. Create a viable business from a prime site that was undervalued.
4. Leverage the natural beauty, fantastic produce, reputation and obvious potential of the Tweed Valley.
5. Build a sustainable long term family business in markets we were passionate about i.e. adventure sports and hospitality.
6. Use local suppliers, produce, work force and reinstate a loyal local trade and attract visitors.
7. Act ethically as an employer and strive to reduce environmental impact.
8. Live to the following mantra; “Ride, Eat, Relax, Repeat”
Winner will be announced at the Scottish Mountain Bike Awards, 21st November 2019, Memorial Hall, Innerleithen.
