sportscotland has been working with ourselves (DMBinS) & Scottish Cycling to develop a more integrated approach to investment in capital projects, to ensure that we make the best of the resources available and that investment is targeted at those projects that offer the greatest impact against the priorities set out in the national strategic framework for mountain biking in Scotland and Scottish Cycling’s strategic plans.
sportscotland, Scottish Cycling and DMBinS are inviting clubs, local authorities, communities, businesses and other organisations, who are planning to develop a cycling project over the next 3 to 5 years, to tell them about their proposals. It is vital for cycling that there is a better understanding of the pipeline of proposals, as it will inform what and where investment from funding will be prioritised over this period.
In recent years, the profile of cycling has increased significantly, partly because of the phenomenal success of Scottish cyclists such as Chris Hoy, Aileen McGlynn, Katy Archibald and Michael Stewart in Track Cycling; videos of Danny MacAskill going viral whilst mountain biking in Scotland and World Class events such as the UCI Downhill World Cup being held annually in Fort William and the sustained popularity of the 7stanes and other Scottish mountain bike trail centres, located across the country.
sportscotland’s Sports Facilities Fund has invested and will continue to invest in good quality cycling projects across all of the cycling disciplines. It is however an application based investment programme, which can present challenges when it comes to investing strategically into projects. sportscotland, Scottish Cycling and ourselves want to develop a more strategic, supportive and co-ordinated approach towards projects helping to ensure that the best proposals are those that receive investment.
In terms of the next steps, we would be grateful if you could complete the Expression of Interest form using the link below.
If you are considering developing a mountain bike facility then please read our guidance on 'Project Development for Mountain Bike Trails & Training Facilities' - this expression of interest link will be integrated into this guidance shortly.
Anyone completing the form should appreciate that this is not an application for funding - instead it does provides sportscotland, Scottish Cycling and DMBinS with valuable information which will help us invest strategically in the right projects and improve the support to cycling and mountain biking facilities in Scotland.
