  1. 1 Aims of the project How did you identify the demand for the project? What are the foundations of the club?

The Tay Titans was formed in 2009 to provide cycle coaching for children up to the age of 16 years old. There was a great demand of youngsters wanting to get on their bikes in the Perthshire area and to gain cycling coaching. It was formed by a group of volunteers willing to give their time to the youngsters and provide the coaching in a safe environment.

  2. 2 Actions What did you do and how did you do it? Who did you involve? How did you promote the project?

The club was started by a volunteer from the local adult cycling club who saw the need in the area to provide a cycling coaching club to the young persons. A committee was formed (various parents etc) links to Perth & Kinross Council, links to other cycling clubs and has grown tremendously over the years. We have also more recently have acquired our Go-Ride Accreditation to further the club.

Our club was promoted locally, through cycling events hosted by our club. We also have our website and our Facebook page. Lots of our riders race competitively and promote our club through their success.

  3. 3 The Results What were the project outcomes/results? What one feature of your project would you highlight as a particular success or unique aspect?

We now have 60 members from ages 6-16 years of age, we are now at our limits and have a waiting list. Tay Titans meet weekly on a Monday night at Perth Grammar Grounds, we also have guided rides and coaching at Kinnoull Hill/Dunkeld where the kids have a chance to put all their skills into place. Majority of our members attend race events locally, Scottish and Nationally and have shown great success. We also hold our own club race nights which is great fun for all.

What one features of your project would you highlight as a particular success or unique aspect?

I think the club has given the young riders not only fantastic cycling skills but great confidence and personal achievements. Though our club has a wide range of ages there is a real feel of team spirit!

  4. 4 Future Developement How do you plan to develop the project so that it keeps on working in the future?

The coaches do a great job in keeping the sessions really interesting and fun for the kids and vary there coaching throughout the sessions. We plan to move forward and to do this we need more coaches and our existing coaches to further their qualifications so that we can grow as a club. We need to obtain funding/grants to do this through various organizations and fundraising. As mentioned above we now have a waiting list and want to give even more kids the opportunities that our club can provide.

  5. 5 Additional Information Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your club?

It is an amazing club and all the kids enjoy it immensely and have great fun, also fantastic guidance/coaching to the members who want to race competitively. We want to be able to keep our club going and want lots of new kids along to experience/gain cycling skills and be part of our fantastic team …. go Tay Titans !!
