Adaptive mtb

The ‘Momentum Rides - 2012’, a series of 4 guided mountain bike rides aimed at disabled riders and run by Dolgellau based project ‘Challenge your Boundaries’ has been granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme.

The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The ride series was considered to embrace Olympic principles by promoting grass-roots participation in an adaptive activity; one that perhaps potential riders had not previously considered or even heard about, and by providing coaching opportunities, and quality outdoor experiences.

The concept of the Momentum series was to provide guided rides with an informal, bike-club feel, where adaptive riders could get together, swap tips and experiences, with the hope that this will help facilitate the growth of adaptive mountain biking within the UK. The rides are free to riders with their own equipment, and accredited riders will be able to rent the Challenge your Boundaries bikes. As places are limited a booking fee will be taken and refunded on the day for all those who attend.

Discover Dolgellau initiated the ‘Challenge your Boundaries’ adaptive mountain biking project for disabled riders in late October 2011. The project is a partnership with the Snowdonia National Park, Sport Wales, Disability Sport Wales and Forestry Commission Wales, and provides equipment, coaching and leadership to enable a wider group of riders to hit the trails.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: ’The Challenge your Boundaries’ Momentum Rides 2012 are encouraging disabled riders to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as Discover Dolgellau we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in adaptive mountain biking.’
